No trainers allowed.
No trainers allowed in Promised Land at Koko.

So put your dancing shoes on.

Or go barefoot.

unfortunately my trainers -are- my dancing shoes...

is there an official announcement on this? the flyer says "smart casual" as ever and (smart casual) trainers are usually okay.

didn't mean to doubt you, AM, but this is quite a big deal. have just got off the phone to the Promised Land info line and the trainer ban was confirmed. :-( everyone please make sure your mates are aware!

evidently this has come from the venue. they're primarily a gig venue these days but they had some trouble with a dance music event recently (obviously thugs wear trainers?!!) so they're cracking down.

PL NYE in da Bush should have the usual door policy and hopefully the Koko Palace will relax its rules in the new year...

my shoes are like trainers and if you miss it because of footwear what the hell do you come for i dance in my bear feet if i have to

but if you feel your footwear makes your night out you need to get out more

and like was said all back to norm on nye which is going to be out of this world

i come to dance - to dance properly and comfortably - which you can't do in shoes.

i come to recapture the vibe of the early days which you can't do in shoes.

plus i don't actually own any shoes.

IMHO the whole 'smart casual' thing is bad enough. i wouldn't give any other event with any level of dresscode a second look but love the music (and DJs!) at Promised Land so i bite the bullet.

it's probably my favourite clubnight and i've been a regular for several years now but why does an event that claims to take you back to the summer of love need to have a dresscode anyway?

some people like to dress up, especially for house nights, and fair play to them but this whole shoe thing (and i realise, as i said above, that this has come from the venue not the promoters) is going to alienate a lot of ravers, especially if they don't know about it and get refused entry on the night...

oh and dancing barefoot in a field in '88 is one thing but on a crowded dancefloor with girls wearing stilettos is another! ouch.

personally from my memories i wore kickers and wallabees ,purple ones where my favourite and a naf naf top but i wouldnt wear them now .
as i said some shoes these days are like trainers not your office shoe and like i said the venues choice not the night

so put your dancing feet on know your ears will hear the greatest tunes in dance music history

i suppose i could get everyone to take there footwear off and put them on there ears now that be a photo for front page dsi lol

like i said i rather be in trainers though as i always wear them

yeah the fella on the PL info line did suggest taking it old skool and wearing Kickers! but would a tie-dye shirt and dungarees count as smart casual...?

he was apologetic about it and said to spread the word. having caught up with some friends last night it sounds like the news is getting round, even offline. a lot of people are unhappy about it. some will be wearing shoes under duress so if numbers aren't noticeably down it'll be a testament to how much the punters love the night and the tunes.

one mate was going to bring a friend to her first PL but she can't imagine going partying without trainers. not the best first impression of the event. even my old mum said "how do they expect you to dance wearing shoes?!"

sorry Huck, i think that was me! ;9

to elaborate on yesterday's rant, i think there are three issues here.

firstly how can a venue treat a promoter and its punters like this - changing the door policy after the flyers have been printed? it's bad for the reputation, and therefore the business, of both venue and promoter. if the venue doesn't back down in 2009 then i can only hope that the party will relocate cos otherwise ravers will vote with their (defiantly trainer-clad) feet.

secondly if Koko have done this because of incidents at other dance music events there, how is a trainer ban supposed to make any difference? your typical raver isn't any more likely to cause trouble, quite the opposite if anything. there have been several PL parties at Koko now, with trainers aplenty, and (on the whole) no great amount of trouble.

finally - my personal axe to grind - why is there a standard dresscode on the flyer anyways? the rave scene should be about inclusion and unity, not excluding people on the basis of what they wear.

PLUR!

A kicking from a pair of shoes would cause more harm then a pair of trainers.

Koko have shot themselves in their own foot (pardon the pun).
No one is happy with this ruling.

is it a Koko thing or a Promised Land policy?

for the harder events, Frantic etc, they let you wear what you like... it might be a PL policy?

It is a Koko policy, so it may apply to all dance events there in the future.

yeah, i did wonder about other events there.

it's a far from ideal situation, but if you're going to make the best of it then shouldn't the promoters at least make an official announcement on major clubbing forums (like DSI) and on their own website and Myspace page?

it's a negative message but better than having people not know and get turned away, shirley.

I totally agree. Some people travel miles to go to Promised Land and events at Koko.

I live near Eastbourne myself.

a guy at work swears by his pair of "dead man's shoes" he got cheap from a charity shop. might have to get some myself!
